Governance
Backed by strong economies, many Asian societies are rapidly changing. As they do, important questions arise concerning political freedoms, state-society relations, people’s well-being, and fundamental rights. At the same time, the increasing participation of Asian governments and other stakeholders in global forums is challenging the traditional Western-dominated multilateral order. Also, a multitude of non-traditional security risks present challenges to states and societies in Asia and require regional cooperation.
Our Governance Programme focuses on the major political, economic, and social trends that accompany the rise of the Asia region. Through research, analysis and regional dialogue, we will promote multilateral approaches to problem solving. The programme will bring together experts, policymakers, and civil society organisations from Asia and Europe to discuss ways of strengthening inclusive democratic societies and responding to the challenges in the region.
